Illamasqua are one of my favourite brands and I bulk bought a stack of products in their post-Christmas sale.
I’ve been working my way through my goodies and this week I road tested the Light Liquid Foundation.
Price: £23
Weight/ volume: 30ml
Shades: 13
My shade: LF 233
Features: Light coverage with a dewy finish
Purchased/ sample: purchased (on sale for £10)
Sales blurb:
Blends effortlessly, balances and corrects uneven skin tone, giving a light coverage and dewy effect that lasts long into the night.
+ Description/ guidance for each shade is a handy helper when buying foundation online. My shade, 233 is described as for olive skin with golden undertones. I usually test foundation on my skin in-store before buying, but at just £10 on sale I thought I’d just give it a shot.
+ Sheer but even coverage that builds to medium coverage. Other sheer foundations I’ve tried haven’t been buildable enough and haven’t covered the uneven areas of my skintone. This foundation did the job with medium coverage.
+ Natural finish with a slight dewy effect that gives a ‘glow from within’ look.
– Oxidation in olive/ medium shades after a few minutes. The shots below are after about 15 minutes. I wasn’t wearing any primer and so it definitely wasn’t an oxidation reaction to the primer.
–Flashback is an issue as it uses the dreaded Titanium Dioxide as its SPF source. It’s not as bad as with other foundations I’ve tried though.
Yay or nay
For me shade 233 is a maybe, mainly due to the oxidation. It should be noted that oxidation occurs as a chemical reaction and may just be reacting to my skin ph on that day. It also is affected by different moisturisers or primers you use. I’ll use up the bottle, mixing either with Illamasqua Skin Base or the lighter shade in Light Liquid.
The lighter shades I swatched in store back in mid-January didn’t have any issues with oxidation so if you’re fairer skinned than I am, it’s a definite yay.
