Is Origins as good a brand as social media influencers and beauty bloggers would have you think? And is it good enough to make it into my pro makeup & skincare kit?

I bought the Origins Skincare Superstars set back in the Boots’ January sale for about £22, and got around £60 worth of their bestsellers to give it a good trial run for myself.
The Superstars set Contains:
- Checks and Balances™ Frothy Face Wash (30ml)
- Super Spot Remover™ Blemish Treatment Gel (10ml)
- Dr. Andrew Weil for Origins™ Mega-Mushroom Relief & Resilience Soothing Treatment Lotion (50ml)
- GinZing™ Oil-Free Energy-Boosting Gel Moisturizer (30ml)
- GinZing™ Refreshing Eye Cream to Brighten & Depuff (5ml)
- Drink Up™ Intensive Overnight Hydrating Mask with Avocado & Glacier Water (15ml)
- Clear Improvement™ Active Charcoal Mask to Clear Pores (15ml)
For the past 3 weeks, I’ve been using the Blemish gel (as needed), the toning lotion, gel moisturiser, and eye cream on the daily.
Tried & Tested

I am lucky in that I only get the occasional spot here and there, usually around my hairline. I use the Effaclar Duo daily around my hairline area to keep spots at bay. When I do get the odd acne flare-up the Super Spot Remover Gel is definitely going to come in handy. I used the gel on a spot that was just not shifting with my drying lotion, so I applied twice daily for 2 days and it was gone by the end of the second day. No dryness, no scarring, just normal skin again.

I usually try to only use one ‘new’ facial product
at a time, so I can better assess the efficacy of the new product,
but from day one, after trying the
Mega-Mushroom
Treatment Lotion with the Ginzing Gel Moisturiser,
I was in love with how they both worked together. My skin was
literally baby soft even after a few hours.

The next day I tried the the Mega-Mushroom Treatment Lotion with anther moisturiser and the third day I wore the Ginzing Gel Moisturiser without the Mushroom Lotion. The Mushroom lotion with different moisturiser noticeably enhanced the performance of the moisturiser. The Ginzing moisturiser on it’s own was a little smother than my previous moisturiser but the citrus scent really puts me off. Other than that I love it.
Buuuut the best skin I’ve had is when using the Mushroom Lotion together with the Ginzing Moisturiser.

The last product that I’ve added to my daily face, is the Ginzing Eye Cream. I really like this texture and absorbency. It reminds me a lot of the Benefit It’s Potent Eye cream (which I was lazy about wearing daily, so ended up having to toss half the pot when it expired – bad Tas, I know). I prefer the jar to the Origins eye cream (simple, flat, screw lid) compared to the Benefit It’s Potent, which looks nice but doesn’t stack because of the curved top, and is slippery to open.
The verdict
I have yet to try the masks (not yet needed them) or the face wash (that’s going in my travel toiletries bag). I will report back with the verdicts once I have given them a good run.
I’ll definitely be repurchasing the Mega-Mushroom Treatment Lotion once this sample size runs out. I’m on the fence about the Ginzing Gel Moisturiser because of the super-strong citrus scent. I love the Ginzing eye cream and will repurchase, once this is finished, and once I’ve finished the Olay eye cream. The Super Spot Remover Gel is soooo good, so I will be buying a full size soon too.

So overall I was super-happy with the set, especially as I bought it from the sale, so it was only £22.66 from the Boots’ January Sale (RRP £34, product value £61).
